Product FAQs

Grass-fed means the cattle eat what nature intended - pasture grass - rather than grain or corn feed. For skincare, this matters because a grass-fed animal's fat contains a higher ratio of beneficial fatty acids, including conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) and fat-soluble vitamins. We know exactly where our tallow comes from - something very few tallow brands can say.

A little goes a long way. For face balms and creams, warm a pea-sized amount between your fingertips and press gently into clean, slightly damp skin - the moisture helps with absorption. Tallow is dense and rich, so using too much can leave a greasy feel. Start small, let it absorb for 60–90 seconds, and add more only if needed. Apply morning and/or evening after cleansing.

Tallow has a comedogenic rating of 2 (out of 5), similar to jojoba oil, which means it is low-to-moderate risk for most people. Because its lipid profile is bio-identical to your skin's natural sebum, many people find it regulates rather than clogs. That said, every skin is different. We recommend a 24-hour patch test on the inner forearm before first use, especially for acne-prone skin. We never make medical claims - this is skincare, not a treatment.

Yes - every ingredient is listed on our label and product pages. We use no hidden additives, and no fillers. If an ingredient needs a warning label, it doesn't belong in our jars.

Moisturizers are water-based emulsions that deliver hydration and absorb quickly, making them a solid daily option for most skin types. Face balms are anhydrous - oils and waxes only, no water - so they work as an occlusive layer that locks existing moisture in and reduces TEWL (transepidermal water loss). Balms tend to be thicker and richer, often used overnight or as a spot treatment on especially dry areas. If your skin needs extra support, a lightweight moisturizer followed by a thin layer of balm is a simple way to get both benefits.

Formulation & Quality FAQs

Yes. TalloPharm was co-founded by two licensed pharmacists with over 40 years of extensive combined clinical experience. Every formulation is developed and reviewed through that clinical lens — not by a contract lab working from a template. We apply the same standard of evidence
and documentation to our skincare that we applied to our patients: if we wouldn't recommend it to family, it won't go in our jars.

High-shear mixing uses mechanical force to break ingredients into much smaller particles than conventional hand or paddle mixing achieves. For skincare, smaller particle size means ingredients are more uniformly blended and penetrate the skin more effectively — what we call enhanced bioavailability. Most tallow skincare is hand-whipped or low-speed mixed; we believe the pharmaceutical-grade approach produces a meaningfully better product, and it's a standard we apply to every batch.

Every batch goes through documented quality controls: we monitor mixing temperature, perform pH checks where applicable, assign lot numbers, and maintain full batch records. These are pharmaceutical manufacturing practices applied to cosmetic production. If you ever need to trace an issue to a specific production run, we have the records to do it. Our batch documentation also supports full MoCRA compliance.
